This blows me away and makes me so curious at the same time. Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, string section of the original Grateful Dead have asked John Kadlecik the lead guitarist from Dark Star Orchestra (a Grateful Dead Tribute band that recreates original set lists) to sit in as lead for a band they threw together called Furthur. This is literally seeing someone's dream come true. It is not just like the movie Rockstar with Mark Walburg, IT IS that movie. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall for that call. Could make a good news story; shit I'm curious what this guy thinks of all this, what does his former band-mates think? Will Dark Star have to find someone to cover John? Perhaps John will start to go down a road of self destruction, cheat on his girlfriend and then have an epiphany and come back to Dark Star? Regardless my thoughts are this, it should be good as John can really play a choice Jerry role, but seeing him in the conext of the Dark Star cover band never did it for me. I always thought that the Dead should have done this when the originally came back last year to tour. The reason being is that Warren Haynes is just too different, too southern rock to really understand the nature of noodling glory.
Well we shall see, but I am torn whether or not to make this my birthday present, because I am curious on so many levels.
